Brudenell Social Club

The Brudenell Social Club is a social club in Hyde Park, Leeds, England. It is best known as a venue for live music.〔(Leeds Live it Love it Website )〕
The Brudenell was formed as a 'gentleman's social and recreational club' in 1913〔(Leeds Social Clubs Website )〕 and originally was a social club for cabaret and bingo. The venue is a music venue in Leeds〔(Leeds Music Scene ) venue listing〕 due to its proximity to Hyde Park, one of two areas in the city with extremely high student populations〔(Leeds Live it Love it Website )〕 (the other being Headingley). Since the recent resurgence in the popularity of post-rock, the Brudenell has established a reputation for showcasing many of the best and upcoming bands of this genre. Recently this has included gigs by Jeniferever, God Is An Astronaut and iLiKETRAiNS.
As well playing host to many lesser-known bands, the Brudenell has hosted 'secret' gigs by the likes of Franz Ferdinand (in April 2004 under the pseudonym 'The Black Hands'〔(Welcome to Yorkshire Website )〕), The Kooks〔(Yorkshire Evening Post article ) 'Kooks Leeds gig sells out in hours', Published 11 January 2008〕 and the Kaiser Chiefs. The Cribs also played many of their early gigs there and continue to play regularly. It was the venue of The Cribs charity fund raising Christmas event, Cribsmas,〔(I Like Music - The Cribs I'm a Realist )〕 which also featured Franz Ferdinand, the Kaiser Chiefs and Kate Nash.〔(Yorkshire Evening Post article ) 'INTERVIEW: The Cribs', Published 8 January 2009〕
